Kathy Schwalbe, Ph.D., PMP, is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Business Administration at Augsburg College in Minneapolis, where she primarily taught courses in project management and problem solving for business. Dr. Schwalbe's first job out of college was as a project manager/officer in the Air Force. She worked for 10 years in industry (Air Force, Boeing, and Clark Oil) before entering academia in 1991. Dr. Schwalbe is an active member of PMI, having served as the Student Chapter Liaison for the Minnesota chapter, VP of Education for the Minnesota chapter, Editor of the ISSIG Review, Director of Communications for PMI's Information Systems Specific Interest Group, member of PMI's test-writing team, and writer for the community posts. She earned her Ph.D. in Higher Education at the University of Minnesota, her MBA at Northeastern University's High Technology MBA program, and her B.S. in mathematics at the University of Notre Dame. Dr. Schwalbe was named Educator of the Year in 2011 by the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) Education Special Interest Group (EDSIG).

Four Stars Extremely dry to read but still refer back to it in my career a year later.This book is the worst! Pick up the PMBOK and read it instead This book is the worst! Pick up the PMBOK and read it instead. Every example of a project management deliverable (e.g. project management plan, scope management plan, etc...) used as a 'guide' in this book...let's just say, if I used that template at a new job, I'd be walked out the door.Schwalbe needs to stick to classroom teaching.Not the book for me This book has a lot of good information but I personally find it to be a bit 'wordy'. Unnecessarily repetitive and somewhat unorganized. IMHO, people who LIKE to read for the sake of reading will not have any issues with this book. I on the other hand have limited amounts of time to read and wish the book would 'cut to the chase and get to the point'.
